The Museum of Fine Arts named after Emperor Alexander III at the Imperial Moscow University was opened to the public on May 31 (June 13) 1912. In 1932, it was renamed the State Museum of Fine Arts, and in 1937, in connection with the 100th anniversary of the death of A.S. Pushkin, he was given the name of the poet.
